Prince of Detroit

Last night, the Pistons crushed the Cleveland Cavaliers with a barrage of three-pointers and impressive team playing. One of my favorite moments was right after Ben Wallace missed two free throws and everybody, including him, joked about it. He more than made up for his imprecise foul shooting with a powerful and physical game that helped shut down the Cavaliers and open up the Pistons' precision field shooting. And though Ben and the whole team were superb, Tayshaun Prince can be singled out for his particularly savvy and skillful play. He outscored Cleveland's big man LeBron James, 24 points to 22. The overall final score reflected the Pistons' dominance: 113-86. Hard to believe I was just at the same Palace last Wednesday to see a similarly lop-sided victory!

The 6'9" Prince (2/28/80) from Compton, California, graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2002 and was then picked up by Detroit. He became a starter when Larry Brown became coach in 2003 and is now one of the great Pistons powerhouses. A spidery-looking athlete, his fast moves and high-percentage shooting seem almost acrobatic, and he plays excellent defense, too.

The official Tayshaun Prince website is a good one:
www.tprince22.com

There are several sections on the site, including a sporadic journal posted by Prince himself. Back on March 10, he wrote: "The goal right now is to win enough games to get home court advantage for the playoffs and go on to win another ring from there." So far, so good! There's also an interview section where one can get a feel for the teamwork and comraderie of the Pistons, plus an idea of where they like to play and be (New York City, Chicago, warmer cities) and where they don't (like Utah -- "there's really not much to do there."). There are plenty of ways to shop for merchandise, too, and links back to the Pistons and NBA.

Next game is on Tuesday at the Palace. The Cavaliers may be a little more rested for that one. Even so, I'm optimistic that Detroit can take them out.

I'll give the rest of the world a little break for now . . . . . Cheers to everyone!

The Pistons are right -- Utah is kind of a problem in the excitement area.

I love T Prince. He's so fantastic and doesn't get enough credit.

Erik,

I had an opportunity to meet the team once, and as thin as Tayshaun looks on screen he is intimidating in the way that the Ethiopians must have had on the Christian Missionaries.

(Small Q; How did you find my blog?)

It's going to take me some time, but I'll be reading through your posts very soon.

Hey Cheri,

Thanks for your comments. That's great about Tayshaun Prince. In answer to your q., I follow Michelle's Spells and all the comments and from that, everything is just a click or two away. The synergy of modern life!
