Woody Allen: Scoop

The Scoop on Scoop: limited U.S. release this Friday, July 28, 2006.

Woody Allen's second British film (it's been barely six months since the widespread U.S. release of Match Point), again starring Scarlett Johansson, this time as a college student-reporter who is given a prospective big scoop by a ghostly reporter, played by the always intense and entertaining Ian McShane (lately he also stars as brainy tough guy Al Swearengen on HBO's Deadwood).

Woody Allen plays the goofy otherworldly magician Splendini. McShane's ghostly character reveals the alleged identity of the Tarot Card serial killer, played by dapper Hugh Jackman. Complication: Johnansson's character falls in love with alleged killer. Crazy antics follow.

A comedy involving a serial killer? Well, it's not the first of Woody's forays into this criminal territory, and it probably won't be the last. His next film, from what I gather after snooping around for additional information, is/will be set in Spain with Spanish actors.

Will Woody Allen ever film again back in the U.S.A.? Who cares? Glad to see him keeping at it without pause. Go, Woody, go!

Cheerio, dear readers!

Being a huge Deadwood fan, I can't even look at Ian McShane with out seeing Al Swearengen.
I'm defiantly going to try to see this one. The lovely miss Scarlett Johnansson is a gifted talent and a joy to see. It's just going to be weird seeing McShane. They didn't even try to disguise him or make him shave his mustache either.
I wonder if he through out a few random "c***suckers" on the set.

Ah yes, Deadwood rocks! More swearing in it then in anything I've ever seen, certainly. This shocks some people, but it seems fitting (and it's damned funny). Tygress, what do *you* think of Woody Allen?

Cheers,
Erik
