Amid the convulsive madness in the Middle East, the BBC and other international sources are reporting that Uri Grossman, 20-year old son of Israeli novelist David Grossman, was killed yesterday by a Hezbollah-fired anti-tank projectile.
Tragically, David Grossman is not only a writer but also a peace activist who's been calling for an immediate end to the latest hostilities. My heart goes out to the man, author of several books, including She-tehi li ha-Sakin / Be My Knife: A Novel (1998/2001).

With civilians and soldiers getting slaughtered in heaps on all sides throughout the region from Afghanistan through Iraq to the Mediterranean Sea, a ceasefire in Lebanon is looking increasingly like one in name only. God help us all.
