Casino Royale 2006

The third and newest version of Casino Royale opens in the USA on November 17, 2006. I'm looking forward to it! Though Sean Connery was always the man, I'm happy to give Daniel Craig a fair shot at the role. From what I've seen, he'll play Bond very effectively, quite in keeping with Ian Fleming's literary invention. I could care less if he's blond or anything else -- he looks brutal and lucky, just like the "real" Bond.

Casino Royale 2006 looks particularly good to me, streamlined and much better than the ludicrous 1967 farce; I've not yet seen the 1954 made-for-tv drama, a mere hour in length, but I'm sure this one wins hands down over that version, as well.

Bond provides a lot of continuity for me -- Goldfinger was the very first movie I can remember seeing at a theater. It stuck -- as did 007 and his interesting world. I still have the original soundtrack on vinyl, the one that got me in trouble in grade school during "show and tell."

007 will continue to provide a sort of strange comfort in a very dangerous world. He usually does. Not to mention the Bond women. Pictured here is Caterina Murino, who plays Solange in Casino Royale.

Today's Rune: Wholeness.

Arrivederci!

I remember going to see "A View to a Kill" with my family and thinking it was cool because Duran Duran sung the theme song.

I probably shouldn't admit to that.

Funny how I was just talking about real-world espionage at my site while you're discussiong fictional espionage at yours. Great minds... :-)

I started disliking Bond movies when we saw things like motorcycles jumping over ramps onto the backs of moving trains. My understanding is that this new film reins in a lot of the over-the-top stunts and focuses more on cloak and dagger.

I've always viewed Bond as a kind of courtier with a license to kill.

I can't wait to see that film either. There has been such a big build up to it here in Britain, so I am looking forward to the release of it! Over here it is released on the 16th November.

Can you believe I've never seen a Bond movie? Maybe I'll see this one. Hey Erik, read any good books lately?

I wasn't too excited about this, but you make it sound really interesting. I'll have to see this soon after it comes out!

Thanks all for the comments! Chief, I like that "View to a Kill" tune and video. The title songs are usually memorable, especially "Goldfinger" by Shirly Bassey. And the guitar theme is way cool.
