Let the Sunshine In!
The Bataan Death March at work is over, thank God. Now I can kick back to surf music and jazz and whatnot for the next two weeks. All right!
The Ventures are a trip. Their Hawaii Five-O (1969) album has treats like the title track, and with a guitar lineup that includes "Dizzy," "Spooky" and "Stormy," all that's missing is "Hang on Sloopy" or "Louie, Louie."
The TV series Hawaii Five-O is cool to see again from time to time, too. Jack Lord (12/30-1920-1/21/1998) was way cool -- I've inadvertently adopted his work outfits, now that I think about it, especially the dark jackets and black ties. This particular look is compared at times to that of the The Blues Brothers, Reservoir Dogs, and Six Feet Under chic, not to mention The Man in Black himself -- Johnny Cash. Interesting role models, all.
Jack Lord's most famous line is simply, "Book 'em, Danno!" And if he's not quite James Bond, he did play CIA liaison Felix Leiter in Dr. No (1962) next to Sean Connery.
Today's Rune: Fertility.
Let the Ventures begin! Merry Christmas and happy holidays!

By the looks of the album cover, there's one hit after another. Were the Ventures the orginal artists for all those songs? Also, I remember Hawaii Five-O, but I couldn't recall what songs may have popped up on the series.
Book 'm Dano.
