The Barbie Bandits: We Rob Banks!

World famous celebrity bank robbers!

What happened?

The crime went down in Acworth, Georgia, on February 27, 2007, when two nineteen year old banditas, Ashley Nicole Miller and Heather Lyn Johnston, stole a gob of money from a small Bank of America branch. Some reports neglect to mention that this “branch” is located in a Kroger grocery store / supermarket. It was not exactly a Bonnie and Clyde operation with guns, either. The girls, captured on surveillance camera in the act of asking for the money and giggling behind sunglasses like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, were easily nabbed on March 1. So were there accomplices – Benny Herman Allen III (22, bank clerk in the Kroger cubbyhole) and Michael Chastang (27).

The “Barbie Bandits” look cute, right? Who knows why their images are spreading around the world. Maybe on a day like today when dire things are happening in Iraq and all over the place, it’s comic relief. (Then there's Scooter Libby -- guilty on four counts!)

Finally, according to the Cobb County, Georgia, Department of Public Safety (they released the surveillance photos to the public, which helped them track down the foursome), Miller is the “badder” young woman, carrying (“trafficking”) ecstasy (i.e. X / MDMA), violating terms of a DUI in another county, and evading a linked warrant. The two women and little Benny were charged with “Possession of Marijuana less than 1 ounce,” as well.

Andy Warhol and crew would have found this interesting, to be sure. Was this a risky stunt for laughs or did they actually expect to get away with it? Stay tuned -- and watch for the music video version coming to a YouTube portal near you, I'm guessing.

Today's Rune: Defense.

I was glad to see Scooter get his due. It will be interesting to see what his sentence will be.
My only concern is why wasn't this covered as much as Ann Nicole Smith? Nice post Erik. MW

True story. An inmate almost escaped from prison when his official looking parole papers were faxed from a Kroger.

My local radio station reported on this and the DJ's only comment was that he was disappointed that they weren't "hotter." Yeesh!

Quick aside, first...Just saw your comment in the guestbook of my homepage; Raven's Nest. In answer to your question, Forest Lawn Cemetary is in Buffalo, NY (there's a link to their website on the title of that photo page, but here's the URL; http://www.forest-lawn.com/ )

As for the Barbie Bandits, what more can possibly be said than, "Duh!" I just hope they try them as adults (also I'm sure they won't.) As if 16 year olds don't know any better. *snort* At least they don't look quite so giggly in their mugshots.

Hi Erik! I know, I have been MIA for a while now - just over my head in 'THINGS to do!'
I hope you are well.
Speaking of Paris Hilton . . . I just saw her in Chicago over this past weekend at a hair and beauty trade show.
Oh well, I'm slowly coming back around, after having been in planes, trains and automobiles for the past few weeks - without a laptop, internet or time to write!
Lindy :)
