Glitter In The Pavement: New Orleans Lives!

New Orleans lives on, come on down! I've had a snap chance to zip into the city and ended up spending most of my time in the French Quarter -- no surprise there. By any means necessary, if you have any Bohemian blood at all and the chance to do so, New Orleans is ready for y'all. The scary news is mostly bullshit -- the French Quarter is basically as I remembered it pre-Katrina, and then some. Well worth the visit. Sin and the sacred side by side, as I well remember. All sorts of music and fun -- and a great blues artist, Rooster.

More to come tomorrow, God willing. If all goes as planned, I should be back in Detroit by tomorrow night.

Today's rune: The Blank Rune.

Birthday: Flannery O'Connor.

Adieu!

Yeah, the Quarter is the least changed area in the city. Many other areas are still devastated.

By the way: I have a request for the long term - long after you post your NO trip details and immediate subjects - have you covered Leonard Cohen? I just read about the swindling he suffered at the nands of his manager whilst he was in some zen monastory. After I next get into a record shop and buy Nico, I'm delving into his works - would like to see the Erik Treatment if it pleases you sir!

Thanks y'all for the comments. Charles, I certainloy don't mean to denigrate the more wrecked areas but, like Detroit, looks like New Orleans could use as much visitor cash as it can get to help the rebuilding. Detroit hasn't recovered from the '67 riots yet, but the French Qtr. in NO is a start. Here we've got little Greektown and Mexicantown.

Danny -- I did do a brief post on Leonard Cohen last week. Good luck with Nico -- I'll have to special order it.

So you did - and I commented on it, but didn't read it fully, rushed as I was. Have now, but it seems you are having quite an influence on my music purchases....

Just don't go all Bono on me!
