Export Import Quotas

I. Insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan have carried out new hit and repeat ambush tactics, shooting down American helicopters and then attacking rescue teams on the ground. They are fighting a long-term war of attrition -- and winning.

II. San Antonio Bill informs me of a book aptly comparing G.W. Bush's Iraq War "adventure" with that of Napoleon III's invasion and occupation of Mexico in the 1860s. I'll have to check out Martin Farenfield's work, America's Napoleonic Folly (2004). I suppose this makes Dick Cheney the modern equivalent of Empress Eugénie. The fanaticism and stupidity of both rings true. Victor Hugo dubbed Napoleon III "Napoléon le Petit." Though G.W. Bush is already widely called "The Shrub," he can probably be called "The Little Weed," too -- not that his father was anything like Napoleon I, Napoleon II, or anyone like that. Come to think of it, Bush, Sr., wasn't much better than Napoleon III, either.

III. Hong Kong-born, Canadian-educated Teresa Cheung (pictured above) stars in Colour Blossoms ("Peach Color") / Toh sik (2004), a Yonfan fantasy that's already made the global art circuit outside the USA. Will it appear at local art houses or skip straight to DVD?

IV. Forget John Landis. What about Brazilian actor Cinthia Moura, the real star of Deer Woman (2005)? She convincingly plays the shape-changing Native American being, avenging her people on drunken truckers just because, apparently, she can. Beware of hoof marks in strange places.

This is not a war meant to win the minds and hearts of the people or even to defeat your enemy. If it were the latter I have already expressed my opinion on that.

Within the next two decades we (the world) is going to reach peak oil production, which means that we will have pumped half of the known reserves of oil out of the ground.

This war is to ensure that America will have a steady supply of crude once peak production has been reached.

It has been estimated that as we reach the end of the known reserves that a barrel of oil could top 300 dollars. If we seriously started pumping oil in the late 19th early 20th century then at current rates of usage the oil reserves will be depleted around 2075.

Think for a minute what this means beyond gasoline...oil byproducts are used in everything from medicines to plastics, which now finally governments are pushing for green lifestyles. they and business will not have to conserve their usage if the population finds ways to conserve and generate solar or wind power. They give a shit less about global warming, corporations are getting nervous about peak production and energy supplies.

This is a war waged for global economic powerhouses, not freedom unless it's the freedom defined by the Patriot act.

Miss Moura. Yes please.

That's a classic insurgent tactic-- to explode a bomb, then attack the rescuers. It's clear that the insurgents are well organized, adaptable-- and will not quit until we leave.

Deer Woman might be worth seeing. The actress is quite attractive.
