Ségolène & Sarko

National elections in France today. High turnout so far. Change is in the air, revolution in the streets. Regardless of who wins, the older generational status quo will hand off to the post-WWII kids, now in their fifties. It's exciting to think that soon, too, Tony Blair (UK), Vladimir Putin (Russia), G.W. Bush and Dick Cheney (USA, Haliburton) will all be out of office -- though the demonic Bush-Cheney duo will, barring a strange turn of events, be the last to go.

Today's second and final cycle in France pits center-left Ségolène Royal (Parti Socialiste or PS) vs. center-right Nicoloas Sarkozy (Nicolas Paul Stéphane Sarközy de Nagy-Bocsa of the Union pour un Mouvement Populaire or UMP).

Opinion polls favor "Sarko" Sarkozy. More will be revealed. As Jim Morrison, (now resting in Père-Lachaise Cemetery in Paris) sang it with the Doors, "The future's uncertain and the end is always near." There's already a strong rumor that, regardless of today's outcome, Sarkozy's wife will be leaving him permanently. Either way, a Pyrrhic victory of sorts. Royal is not formally married, so the worst she'll lose is the election.

Today's Rune: Possessions.

Today's Birthdays: André Masséna, Maximilien Robespierre (b. François Marie Isidore de Robespierre), Sigmund Freud, Nicholas II (b. Nikolay Aleksandrovich Romanov), Rudolph Valentino (b. Rodolfo Alfonso Raffaello Piero Filiberto Guglielmi), Orson Welles, Theodore White, Bob Seger, Tony Blair (Anthony Charles Lynton Blair), George Clooney.

Liberté, égalité, fraternité! Vive la France!
