Plan Nine from Outer Space

In March and April 2003 during the early stages of the Iraq War, many were amused by Iraqi Information Minister Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf’s colorful language and medieval pronouncements. I wonder how many are laughing now?

We will see how the issue will turn out once they come to Baghdad.

They are lying every day. They are lying always, and mainly they are lying to their public opinion.

I speak better English than this villain, Bush. . . Bush is a very stupid man. The American people are not stupid, they are very clever. I can’t understand how such clever people came to elect such a stupid president.

If Baghdad Bob seemed amusing at the time, Dick Cheney did not. He was -- and is -- nothing short of sinister. As an independent US citizen, I always question everything he says and does, think about his real motives. It's Friday the 13th: now what's that Dick up to?

Today's Rune: Protection.

Birthdays: John Clare, Nathaniel Bedford Forrest, Isaac Emmanuilovich Babel, Bob Crane, Patrick Stewart, Roger McGuinn, Cheech Marin, Cameron Crowe.

Ciao Baghdad!

I wish I could find, in one place, a chronological list of all the statements regarding Iraq made by Cheney et al, that have turned out to be wildly wrong.

That Cheney quote, uttered in 2005, is the tagline in my email.

Tell 'em a hookah-smoking catepillah has given you the call. This blond Lebonese hash the Americans gave me is great!

Hmm. It seems the only ones able to hold Iraq together were Faisel in the 1930's, pro British since they had been there since the end of WW1, Quasim who overthrew the pro west government in 1958 and who was then overthrown by Arif in 1968. In 1979 Hussein rules with an iron hand. It seems this country cannot function with a legitimate government in power because it is too tribal, too factionalized, too engrained in an ancient culture that abhors the modern world.

What i will never understand is why that Dick had such a hard on for Hussein? It was his iron fisted secular country that kept the Iranian influence to a minimum.

Whatever he was up to yesterday you can be sure it was leading Bush by the nose.

You gotta love Cheney's smirky smile. It says it all.
