Loverboy

Creepy movie to behold: Loverboy (2005) directed by Kevin Bacon, with Kyra Sedgwick, Marisa Tomei, Matt Dillon, the Bacon-Sedgwick children, and more -- based on the 2001 novel by Victoria Redel (Redel also wrote The Border of Truth, 2007, a collection of short stories and a volume of poetry).

What happens when Mom and Dad (the lively Tomei and Bacon characters in flashback) have a single child (the Sedgwick character) during the "me generation," tune her out, and frolic around together in a love cloud, then "go away," leaving her enough money to do whatever she wants with her life? Turns out what she wants is to raise her son without a father figure and call him "Loverboy," doting on him like crazy, home schooling him, and freaking everyone else out (yes, there are darkly comic moments, but this is not exactly a comedy). Think Michael Jackson if he was a she and not a celebrity and you might catch an inkling of this Mommy's Neverland. Performances are all good, as is Bacon's directing. Might want to listen to "Icky Thump" by The White Stripes after seeing this one, I'm guessing.

Yassoo Erik, Ti kannis?
Your Greek for the day. I'm sure you've heard, "yassoo," before - a greeting like 'hello'...'hey.'
"Ti kannis" is an informal 'how are you' ... 'what's up' ... (actually: what are you doing)
So, that's that!

"Loverboy" does sound creepy - very Oedipal. A mother has so much power to ruin her son...it's scary. It does sound like something interesting to write about someday (not from personal, concrete experience, though!) I do want to see it.

I haven't listened to the entire new White Stripes CD. It is a bit different from the previous sound.

Wow, some great birthdays today. Very charismatic and innovative people!

Hope your journey is whatever you want it to be!

Sounds interesting, I hadn't heard of it before now. Icky Thump is great, I've been playing that one near-daily for a bit now.

Speaking of odd movies, ever see "Tideland"?
