Shake It Up

The USA needs a good shake up. Not more of the same old crap, but something new. The 2008 national election is one good entry point for change. Collectively we are so slow, socially retarded even -- one major woman candidate? And Barack Obama? The rest are all same old, same old. Look at how much Spain has shifted gears since the 1970s -- replaced the Franco dictatorship with progressive, moderate leadership (currently, Socialist Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero) that pulled Spanish troops out of Iraq. In Dullsville, USA, we have one socialist in the entire Congress, one black Senator, a small handful of women. As is, we are pathetic. To ward off another fascist-like global shake down, the USA needs a good shake up.

Here's a poem by Detroit-born Robert Hayden:

El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz (Malcolm X)

O masks and metamorphoses of Ahab, Native Son

The icy evil that struck his father down
and ravished his mother into madness
trapped him in violence of a punished self
struggling to break free.

As Home Boy, as Dee-troit Red,
he fled his name, became the quarry of
his own obsessed pursuit.

He conked his hair and Lindy-hopped,
zoot-suited jiver, swinging those chicks
in the hot rose and reefer glow.

His injured childhood bullied him.
He skirmished in the Upas trees
and cannibal flowers of the American Dream--

but could not hurt the enemy
powered against him there.

I agree we need a hell of a shake up to stop this hell of a shake down our government is doing to us. Still to early though for me to decide on whom i will support in the Democratic primary, but that was quite a poem about Malcolm X a personal hero of mine.

Hey - this is true - you need a good shake up, but is Barack the man to do it? Will he look the part, but be part of the same old?

Thanks, guys for the comments. I'm not specifically endorsing Obama. Any Dem will be better than any Republican, BUT . . . realistically, life might be a little better under the Dems, not majorly improved. Short of miracles, that may be the best one can expect. Hate to say it but, "Revolution is the opiate of the intellectuals."
