Queimada, or Burn! (1969)

Brando, Pontecorvo. I'm showing this in Latin American Studies. One of the coolest films ever! And a long long way from Hollywood. . .

On a low budget but with coherent, beautiful understanding of human violence on a mass scale. This could never be made in Hollywood --- its vision is too clear, its message too strong a dose vs. any status quo. Cf. with the also brilliant but longer Battle of Algiers. Timeless, both of them.

I didn't know until the other day the story that his manager was actually responsible for the stage name, but I love Elvis Costello music.
