O When the Saints . . . . .

All Saints' Day, followed tomorrow by All Souls' Day, both rolled into one as the Día de los Muertos. For many Catholics, a day to contemplate the saints and make up for any missed feast days during the rest of the year. A spiritual catch-up day. Tomorrow, All Souls' Day, the Feast of All Souls, the Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed. Coming hard on the heels of All Hallows' Eve, it's a real spookathon. Attention must be paid.

One of the enduring powers of Catholicism is its collective willingness to absorb elements of other religious and cultural ceremonies and traditions. Hardcore Protestants seem to treat it all as "Devil's work." As a Catholic, I think I'll stick with what I've got. If there's to be an exorcism, I'd rather have it done by an ordained Catholic priest than by some lay evangelical.

Today's earthly beauty: Aishwarya Rai, who rivals even Angelina Jolie, though they'd probably look good together, too.

Today's Rune: Breakthrough.

Alavidha!
