Raw Power and Naked Economics
This semester I'm teaching Economics and have been saddled with using Charles Wheelan's Naked Economics: Undressing the Dismal Science (2002) -- choice made by last year's instructor. Actually, despite the provocative title and the author's zealous free market ideology, it's pretty interesting -- especially given the crazy energies unleashed worldwide lately. Wheelan has also written against wild-eyed tax cuts -- like the kind being proposed in Washington lately to "head off recession" . . .
In the words of Margo Channing (Betty Davis in All About Eve, 1950): Buckle your seat belts: it's going to be a bumpy night!
Today's Rune: Breakthrough.

What's your take on "Freakanomics?" If you've read it. I rather enjoyed it.
Economics??? *runs screaming in terror & denial*
Hey, Charles, yeah - Freanomics is fun, as is The Tipping Point and Blink. Now I need to read Sex, Drugs, and Economics . . .
Lana, they don't call it Dismal for nothing ;)
