Escape from Detroit

Got out ahead of the latest round of snow and made it with plenty of spare time to the North Carolina Piedmont. Above, courtesy of the Michigan Department of Transportation, a glimpse of last night's storm. Here in Tar Heel Nation, just got back from a relaxing hike in 75 degree Fahrenheit springtime air, a light breeze and plenty of sun. Nice change of venue.

The Haw River Trail includes hiking pathways and enough depth in the river for canoes and kayaks. Small in some places, the Haw is very wide at Saxapahaw, a former mill town with long bridges spanning the river.

Today's Rune: Gateway.
