Bright Lights, Big City

Big night in Detroit. Lots of people geared up and in the streets in their special outfits of red and blue. A salute to the Pistons!

And a salute to the Red Wings!

Pistons and Red Wings: the only real bright lights in The Motor City in 2008 so far . . . (The Kinks, "A Gallon of Gas," 1979)

Today's Rune: Fertility.

I don't think the Wings and Pistons are the only bright lights in Motown Erik. I like that they are proceeding towards some more trophy's and entertaining them who follow sports.

Having grown up here and lived through the dearth of the Wings after Howe and the Production line, That first Stanley cup for Stevie Y was a good thing but after that it seems like a routine.

Same with the Pistons, it seems like Joe D will not let them fade again.

The Tigers after Trammels coaching are really going hot...

The Lions the eternal suck...even they provide some relief for the fans...ha ha ha ha. They are the only D team that have not won a BIG One in my lifetime. Arena football and womens B-Ball (The Shock) both produced the champions eh..but not the eternal underdog. They are amusing.

But lights outside of sports, the city council seems to be am ember looking for the right kindling, i have hope for the next general election. Getting rid of fat ass is a light.

the DIA and its expansion is a good thing. The Art gallery on Woodward that has the neon sign quoting Marley eh? "EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE ALL RIGHT"

Detroit is like Joe Lewis in his prime, man the guy could take a punch as well as throw a punch, we may not have much in the way of legs left but fuck we still got game.

The Detroit poetry community is still out there shouting and that is a light that most leave undiscovered.

Yeah man, sports are good for the soul, a balm if you will but if you look...there is fun here too and depending on your tastes Detroit only looks like a sewer. But that sewer is birthing something, depends on how things go as to what that something is.

Peace
