Wicked Messenger

Haven't had a chance to finish Suze Rotolo's memoir yet, so instead am putting up a shot of the cover of The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan (1963). I've got an original LP that also includes the song titles on either side of Dylan and Rotolo:

Blowin' in the Wind
Girl From the North Country
Masters of War
Down the Highway
Bob Dylan's Blues
A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall

Don't Think Twice, It's All Right
Bob Dylan's Dream
Oxford Town
Talkin' World War III Blues
Corrina, Corrina
Honey, Just Allow Me One More Chance
I Shall Be Free

Another cool book: Mike Marquesee, Wicked Messenger: Bob Dylan and the 1960s (Chimes of Freedon, Revised and Expanded, 2005.) Enduring stuff -- still very pertinent, indeed. This one goes out to Joe McGeary in Philadelphia: he just finished teaching a new Bob Dylan class this past semester. And to my Dad, who's in the ER for observation.

Today's Rune: Signals.

I had to leave work early one day this week for my mother-in-law. She's been in the hospital twice this month. Once for C-Diff (bacterial infection of the small intestine) and the second time -- still don't know.

Hope everything turns out okay with your dad.

I've been catching up on blogs. Seventy-cents per gallon gas huh? Sure wish I could get in my car and go without thinking twice. Can't be so free wheelin' anymore.

Sorry to hear about your dad. I hope everything will be fine. Keep us up to date.

A few weeks ago, the New York Times had an article about her and her book. When I was a teenager, I bought that album and wondered who she was. Later, I learned who she was and was fascinated to learn that she pretty much just walked away from the whole thing.

Have you read "Positively Fourth Street?"

Your pops...may he be surrounded by more than competence.

One of the great things about Dylan is that all of his work is readily available in every format...do a post on his pre Woody years.

Thanks, y'all, for your kind comments. So far, so good. No real answers, but he seems to be okay and in good care in Durham, NC.
