Cassandra's Dream

Come on kids, this is serious stuff! It took me about half an hour (both times) to get into the groove of Woody Allen's last film, Cassandra's Dream (2007). Let me put it this way -- if you saw and liked Woody Allen's Match Point (2005), Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989), or Wim Wenders' Der Amerikanische Freund / The American Friend (1977), you will like this one, too -- trust me.

For everyone else -- you're on your own. No judgment.

Colin Farrell is excellent -- I mean it -- after the horrible Alexander (2004), he was very effective in The New World (2005-2006), too. Cassandra's Dream also stars Ewan McGregor, who's really great in "Lipstick on Your Collar" (1993) and Trainspotting (1996) and decent as an Iggy Pop avatar in the otherwise bizarre Velvet Goldmine (1998).

For those who diss' John Edwards, let's not forget Newt Gingrich, who did the same thing but also discussed divorce details with one of his wives as she lay in pain in her hospital bed. [From Wikipiedia: Newt Gingrich has been married three times. He married Jackie Battley, his former high school geometry teacher, when he was 19 years old (she was seven years his senior at 26 years old). After an alleged affair in 1977 with Ann Manning, then the wife of a West Georgia professor, he sought a divorce from Battley. That was finalized in 1981. Gingrich refused to pay both alimony and child support. The local First Baptist church took up collections for support of Jackie and their children. In 1981, Gingrich wed Marianne Ginther, to whom he remained married until 2000, the same year Gingrich had an affair with a then 33-year-old Congressional staffer, Callista Bisek. He and Bisek were married in 2000 and currently reside in Virginia. Gingrich has two daughters, Kathy and Jackie from his marriage to Jackie Battley, two sons-in-law and two grandchildren.] Furthermore, John McCain is no saint, either. Lest any Republican ass clown hypocrites in glass houses forget. But if you do want to play a devastating game of throwing rocks at glass houses, please email me first. I'll try to keep things civilized . . . . .

Today's Rune: Wholeness.

I saw Colin Farrel in a really interesting movie the other night, "in Bruges," which was pretty good. I've never been a big fan of Woody Allen's films.

I remember that about Newt. I liked Match Point. Will have to look for Cassandra's Dream. Somehow it's not been on my DVD radar.

Thank you all for the comments!

The new one -- Vicky Cristina Barcelona comes out on Friday, August 15th. Kind of a strange title, isn't it?

Charles, I want to see that Bruges movie soon!
