Havana Nocturne

Finally picked up a copy of T. J. English, Havana Nocturne: How the Mob Owned Cuba -- and then Lost it to the Revolution (2008, aka The Havana Mob, 2007).

Recommended by my Aunt Linda and others -- looks great!

Provides background and context to the pitiful and petrified state of official relations between the USA and Cuba for my entire lifetime. Folks, it's time for a change in this as in so many other areas.

On a personal level, I want to visit Cuba directly from the USA. Don't you want that option, too?

Are we free, or slaves to special zombie interests?

Today's Rune: Flow.

We have quite a few Cubans teaching at Xavier. Or have had. I've listend to some endless debates about the Castro period versus the period before. Passion runs high on both sides.

I think the movie "The Godfather II" was fairly succinct in detailing the mobs relation to the Cuban government. "...and from At&T a gold phone..."

I doubt I would ever visit Cuba but I sure as hell don't doubt that it is forty years past the time we should have normalized relations with them.

I thought of "Godfather II" like Walking Man. I also thought of the Martin Cruse Smith novel "Havanna Bay" which includes glimpses of the old casinos and things left behind from the mob era etc.

Erm...We're slaves to special zombie interests. I thought you knew that already! <:P

Some of my fellow Canadian coworkers say Cuba's a wonderful vacation place.
