Noise, Sound, Hearing
While watching a little of Henry Bean's strange Noise (2007), I thought of good sounds, appealing ones.
Trains always thrill me. Trains in the night, rolling along.
The Whip-poor-will / whippoorwill, way off in the woods.
Water in a fountain. A small fountain. Soothing.
Tides, rolling waves by the ocean or sea.
Chimes in a breeze. Spirit.
Music, singing, when it hits the mark.
Rustling leaves, breezes.
Cow bells in a pasture.
Church bells, chimes at midnight.
Plenty of annoying sounds, but also many good ones, eh?

Good sounds heard well:
There is the splash of that first coffee hitting the bottom of the cup.
The satisfying snick of the striker wheel as it sparks the flame of the first smoke of the day.
The first note of a favorite bit of music.
Bad sounds well heard:
The staccato pops of a semi automatic pistol at 3AM.
The flames roar as another house is removed from life.
The last lingering note of "Taps"
This is something my coworker can now enjoy with his new fangled hearing aid.
The sound of the many waterfalls near Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada, is splendid.--National Geographic
We have trains here in the city that run within a mile of our home, but you rarely hear them-- only at night, when everything else is quiet.
As a parent, I'll add my childrens' laughter to the list.
Yesterday, Lana and I were at a local state park down on Lake Pontchartrain. There is a large pavilion out over the water and a long metal and concrete walkway to it. The wind was really blowing hard and as we went along that walkway I could hear the most intriguing sound, produced by the wind through the metal railings. It was beautiful, eerie, and promising all at once. I wish I'd been able to get a recording of it.
I can remeber my father-in-law saying to his wife when all was quiet. Record that sound. In a house full of kids it had to be magic.
my favourite is the sound of rain at night and the peacefulness of falling snow at night where all the roads are blocked
I agree with most of your sounds. I would add bird song first thing in the morning, however.
Hi Eric, love your "sounds". My favs include, Lola purring on my lap, rain on my cottage roof, morning coffee brewing (yeah,WM), church bells, and my car starter starting. Oh, and bonfire cracklings.
