This Wheel's On Fire

Today I was going to post in praise of books, too, but for now, a shout-out to Motor City Burning Press. Check the link below or on ye olde sidebar for the fifty dollar logo contest. Lots about Detroit to work from. What does Detroit mean to you? To me, it means the Red Wings are about to win tomorrow night! But much more than that, of course. Cars, Industry a la Diego Rivera, sports, music, architecture, the new press and art in general. The people. Race relations. A powerful symbol of the USA for a century. Tons of history going way back. Here's a chance to make your mark and earn some running money:

Pretty good for being shot inside of a car. The only thing I think of when I hear detroit is The Crow. So sad, lol.

Indeed, at 65-70 mph. How did you know?

It is odd when I hear people say or write..."but I know nothing about Detroit except...."

Everyone, everywhere has an image of Detroit. Accurate, inaccurate or, woebegone; there is still an image to be told about and conveyed.

We who live here know a history and maybe even a more panoramic image but none the less MCBP wants everyone's image so it can be looked at. I know AD is talking about a movie but it was just about 5 years ago that real crows started to return to Detroit because of the more hospitable habitat (for them) that is forming.

By the By did you know that "The Tire" started out in it's journey as a Ferris Wheel?

I wonder why they decided to turn the wheel into a tire then?

You can tell it's inside from the verticalness of the snow. And I believe you said so in your post? You were multi-tasking, lol. But still, it's very good considering the tire is not blurred.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Motor City Burning Press will come out with.

I've driven by that tire as well, on the way to and from Toronto. Isn't the name of the town by it Romulus?

I keep thinking that it would be easy to kill two birds with one stone: have the old Michigan car factories producing the new national high speed rails system we need. Everybody wins then.

One of the best family vacations I remember was to Michigan-- we got to go inside one of Ford's steel plants, Dearborn Village, the Kellog's factory-- tres cool.

Eric, usually the big tire means I am almost at the airport. I loved it when it had that giant spike in it or the arrow.

The National Safety Council (NSC) earlier this month released an estimate described as "conservative" that more than 636,000 crashes, 330,000 injuries, 12,000 serious injuries, and 2,600 deaths are caused a year by a distracted drivers on cell phones.
