We Almost Lost Detroit

Thanks all, for the Christmas wishes! And mercifully thanks also, a terror attempt at Detroit Metro was thwarted. It's one thing for those who want to commit suicide; it's another thing entirely when such people try (and sometime succeed) to take down others with them.  I don't care what religion -- Islamic or any other; and I don't care what ideology -- kamikaze or any other:  kill yourself. Go ahead. Leave others alone.  This latest attempt by a young man from Nigeria is more chilling than an attempt by a half-wit like Richard Reid, the shoe bomber.  And though thwarted, his actions do disrupt travel, do strike fear. And to try it near Detroit adds insult to injury. Am I wrong?  In a couple of days, maybe I can be more rational about it, but for now . . .

Today's Rune: Strength.

With Detroit being home to the largest Arab population outside of the Middle East all the groups and mosques must now denounce terrorism in any form or come under close scrutiny.

Had he been successful in taking the plane out of the sky it would have been very bad because there is no area around the airports descent pattern that is not heavily populated.

He may yet get his death wish fulfilled because there is a federal death penalty and he will go to trial in federal court.

I saw it on the news. Have no idea what possesses people to do this.

Scary. I heard about this from Lana yesterday. I agree with you. If you want to take your own life do it, just leave others alone. to me it is a disgusting cowardice to try to take others with you.

Erik, it is infuriating for a number of reasons. And also just what Detroit needs about now. Airport security will suck for those of us who don't warrant it--even more than usual. We have friends who were on that very flight and scared spitless! What next?

Thanks all for the comments!

I feel the same way about those who take out their own families or strangers for mental stress reasons. Seek help or stick with one off suicide, not homicide.
