The Kinks: Till the End of the Day

This one goes out to Pete Quaife (RIP) and The Kinks: a rough live version of "Till the End of the Day" from around 1966. Eclectic, moody, pensive and cool -- that's them. And they do a hell of a great live show when they're on . . .

My favorite Kinks period goes from the mid-60s through Muswell Hillbillies (1971), and then sporadically though their American albums ever onward, akin to The Rolling Stones. In both cases, hard to beat the early surge, eh?  But hell, even one great song would have been worth the whole shebang -- and there are scores of them!

Today's Rune: Journey.

I like the Kinks quite a lot, and they were such a huge influence on other bands, from Van Halen to Motley Crue.

Never get tired of hearing that one, or any other Kinks, for that matter.

I've mentioned before that I've got Sirius/XM satellite radio. One of the highlights is Little Steven's Underground Garage. They play a lot of Kinks, including some of their lesser-known tracks.

Erik, any band who does a tune called "lola" has got to be reckoned with! La la la la lo lah!

I really like their "Paranoia" song. I still have to get that mp3 somewhere or something. It's been too long since I've heard it.
