Sergei Eisenstein: Battleship Potemkin

Sergei Eisenstein's 1925 Броненосец «Потёмкин» / Battleship Potemkin / Le cuirassé Potemkine / Panzerkreuzer Potemkin pulls out all the stops, transcending silent, black and white film and even the orginal 1905 uprising against the regime of Russian Tsar/Czar Nicholas II.

The violence in Battleship Potemkin is as vividly depicted as news footage from Syria or any other number of similar places in revolt today, only perhaps with more coherence.

Even beyond this brilliant film, the real story of the Potemkin crew after the uprising is another tale worth telling. One of the Russian sailors, for instance, ended up in Dublin, Ireland, living to past 100 years old.

Today's Rune: Strength.
