Georgy Girl

Silvio Narizzano's Georgy Girl (from Margaret Forster's 1966 novel; she also co-wrote the screenplay) features an excellent ensemble cast that includes Lynn Redgrave (in the title role), Charlotte Rampling (perfect as Meredith), Alan Bates and James Mason. It catches strands of the mid-60s, Swinging London on the outer edges, a class structure full of holes and contradictions, and Georgy adrift at its center. She does finally make choices but only after everyone else has done so first. Last to the ball, she gets there eventually. Sort of. What happens with her next is anyone's
guess . . . Hey there, Georgy Girl vs. Alfie -- also from 1966.
