Mystical Portals or: Windows into Heaven

Caught a good glimpse of The Tsars’ Cabinet: Two Hundred Years of Russian Decorative Arts Under the Romanovs and Windows into Heaven: Russian Icons from the Lilly and Francis Robicsek Collection of Religious Art. At the North Carolina Museum of History in Raleigh. In the last hours on the last day of their extended showing. Whew. Really cool. Glittery. And amazing.

Plus, one catches a pretty good sense of the arc of the House of Romanov -- established in 1613, destroyed in 1917-1918. All the big names are there. The people are long gone but the more durable artifacts remain.

As for the mystical portals of the Orthodox icons -- these may require another post in future.

Today's Rune: Initiation.

Erik-Glittery? Did you say 'glittery'? I bet I'd love it!
