Sick of Their Faces

When I worked with Yoko Akiba in the Public Documents and Maps Department of Perkins Library at Duke University, she used to whisper two things to me all the time, usually just prior to revealing something particularly wicked about people she hated -- "Never tell" and "I'm sick of their faces."

In honor of dear Yoko, here's a list of just such people. I'm sick of their faces:

G.W. Bush
Dick Cheney
The entire junior Bush Administration
Anyone nominated by G.W. Bush for anything, ever
Ann Coulter
James Frey
Kenneth Branagh
Emma Thompson
Harrison Ford
Ben Affleck
Matt Damon
Steven Spielberg
Tom Hanks
Sandra Bullock
Keanu Reeves
Hillary Clinton
John Malkovich
Lance Armstrong
Manu Genobli
Jake Gyllenhall
The Olsen Twins
Kenny Chesney
Michael Jackson
Elizabeth Taylor

With Hillary, it’s nothing personal – I just don’t want another four years of Republican ghouls in office. As for G.W., it’s hard to beat what 91-year old Catherine Currier, my one surviving grandmother, quipped about the current president in a voice spookily similar to William Burroughs': “Every time I see his little rat-like face on tv I want to bite him.” As for the rest of this crew, I'm just sick of their faces.

To Yoko Akiba, RIP. And a big salud to Nana.

To wit -- "The eyebrows, that jerk-off face. I hate him." Of course, that's via the Sopranos. Sometimes it's the only line that works in a situation.
