Divine Activities and Sanctuaries

To the unitiated, Father Divine had some outlandish ideas, but by most accounts he was quite aware of what was going on in the world. In the 1930s, he fought for religious tolerance, civil rights, and the American Dream. In addition to giving sermons and providing quality room and board throughout the extensive International Peace Mission network, he also led marches against lynching in the USA and against fascism and the Nazi occupation of much of Europe.

When I lived in Philadelphia, I noticed the Divine hotels, and bought a few items in a Divine shop. The Divine Lorraine Hotel was huge, right on Broad at Fairmount, on the way to Temple University’s main campus. It’s now registered as a historic landmark building and will be saved. The power of positive thought?

Sweet Angel/Mother Divine has overseen the network since Father Divine "passed on" in 1965; she still makes news in Philadelphia.

The Divine Tracy Hotel, for instance, was sold in August, 2006.

Woodmont, The Mount of the House of the Lord, acquired in 1953. French Gothic style. The grounds include The SHRINE (think Graceland) and gardens. Gladwyne, Pennsylvania, just outside of Philadelphia.

Anyone with internet access can explore much more about Father Divine, Mother Divine, and the International Peace Mission movement, incuding sayings, activities and beliefs via this link.

Today's Rune: Fertility.

Peace.
