Wall of Voodoo: I'll Do It Tomorrow!

Dear readers, there's way so much to write about. I want to do a proper post on Emmylou Harris, for instance -- has anyone noticed how much she and Debbie Harry look alike? What the hell? Pretty cool, I say. Also, she's a University of North Carolina at Greensboro graduate. That's where my sister Linda teaches archaeology (Sint Eustatius, the American South) and anthropology and my brother-in-law Roy (i.e. her husband of twenty years) teaches hi-tech Geography (GPS, remote sensing, Alaska, Egypt). I'd like to also nod my definite approval of the new James Bond flick Casino Royale. But tomorrow, I am going to a memorial service for Joyce Farris, an old friend and fellow librarian who died not too long ago, so for now I'll stick with an excerpt from a Wall of Voodoo song called "Tomorrow." These guys were smart, funny, and way ahead of their time; I've always felt an affinity for them, like we're on the same wavelength about a lot of important aspects of life.

Life is moving faster, I can feel it everyday
And I've got trouble keeping up
With what other people say
Big problems in the world
But my life's just a social swirl

But I'll do it tomorrow
That seems like a pretty good idea to me
What's wrong with tomorrow?
I'm watching him but who's watching me?

Out my window there's nothing where a city used to be
Phone line dead, the power gone
There's nothing on TV
Can't understand what happened to
All the plans I made
I turn on the radio and hear the signal fade

So I'll do it tomorrow
That seems like a pretty good idea to me

What's wrong with tomorrow?
I'm watching him but who's watching me?

Wall of Voodoo, Call of the West (1982)

Bon Voyage!

Jeez, I'd never heard of Wall of Voodoo. Good lyrics of which the songs title immediately made me think of The Fall's; 'How I Wrote Elastic Man' from the same year -

Maybe Harris and Harry share the same surgeon?!! Both look great though...

I, too, loved "Casino Royale." Like Sheila and Danny, though, I'll have to look up "Wall of Voodoo."

Hey Erik,
My wife and I are debating whether Wall of Voodoo did that song, "I'm On The Mexican Radio." For some reason, I'm associating this song with their other material. Perhaps you can shed some light on the topic. Also, I believe there a category called, "Best Weblog for Music Reviews," if so, you're my nomination.

Hi Erik, first of all, I'm sorry about the death of your friend.
Secondly, I still want to see Casino Royale, I have heard good things about it.
The lyrics you posted sing true to me. I am a huge music (and lyrics) lover. You know, my man is Todd Rundgren! I can relate to your relating because I have an affinity with him . . . and he has always been way ahead of his time too.
Thanks.
