Given the right (i.e. bad) circumstances, wealth seems to bring out the inner freak in people. There are so many examples of this, so little time, but think of Howard Hughes, poor Elvis Presley and his entourage, O.J. Simpson, Robert Blake, Michael Jackson and his Neverland Ranch, G.W. Bush and his Crawford Ranch, Tom Cruise, Britney Spears, Anna Nicole Smith's entourage, and so on.
Soon we'll have the Phil Spector murder trial to ponder. Accused of shooting Lana Clarkston on the grounds of his Pyrenees Castle in Alhambra, California four years ago, the real show begins shortly.
Phil Spector (b.12/26/1940), legendary music producer known for his "Wall of Sound" style, used to project a haughty, cool persona. That was in the 1960s and 70s. This is now.
My question is: who advises these people? Are they so far removed from society that they've become clueless? Spector was evidently freakish from day one; time and money have only brought his inner freakdom to the forefront, obliterating everything else about him.
Actress Lana Clarkston (4/5/1962-2/3/2003) appeared briefly in Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982), but her crowning role was as Amathea, star of Barbarian Queen (1985). "No man can touch her steel," went the tagline. "I'll be no man's slave and no man's whore, and if I can't kill them all, by the gods they'll know I've tried," she proclaims. Perhaps Spector's legal team will enter these lines in the trial, citing self-defense. Stranger things have happened. If the glove fits. . . . .

I suspect most of us have some of that freakiness inside, just waiting for a lottery win to bring it out in us.

The answer is a clear & resounding YES. This is the result of the workings of "the machine" that Pink Floyd sang so eloquently about. It was true then, it's true now & so long as the big money's rolling in, it'll be true in future.
