Howlin' Awake

Crystal Zevon, I'll Sleep When I'm Dead: The Dirty Life and Times of Warren Zevon (2007).

This looks even more promising than the DC madam's client list. Warren Zevon (1/24/1947-9/7/2003) was wild and weird in any capacity -- or more precisely, as offbeat songwriter, rock star and mortal man. I briefly dated a burn unit nurse who, frankly, seemed a little too crazy about the guy. She's probably in San Antonio at the Brooke Army Medical Center right now, treating maimed soldiers -- with a spooky smile on her face.

I saw Mr. Zevon play at a small club in Chapel Hill in the early 1980s, and he was great. The venue was perfect. I also got to see k.d. lang at her early peak there, and Lyle Lovett. As for the "dirty life and times of Warren Zevon," it's best to consult the book. I'm still trying to forget about the nurse.

Today's Rune: The Blank Rune.

Birthdays: Alice B. Toklas, Jaroslav Hašek, Joachim von Ribbentrop, Al Lewis, Percy Heath, Johnny Horton, Corinne Calvet, Cloris Leachman, Willie Nelson, Larry Niven, Bobby Vee, Jill Clayburgh, Annie Dillard, Kirsten Dunst.

I just read a piece in a magazine about Iggy Pop getting back together with the original Stooges and writing new material. Have you seen this?

I saw the review in the New York Times yesterday. I'm looking forward to it as well. Nothing I like more than some good rock and roll decadence. I loved Hammer of the Gods and Nobody Gets Out of Here Alive. The Allman Brothers had a good book too.

Charles-
They're touring! I saw them last month!

I've heard that Lyle Lovett concert is worth going to.
