Resident Alien
Does anyone know the story of the Big Cow situated on Mack Avenue between Lenox and Maison's Fine Foods in Detroit? As a resident alien, there's always more to absorb. Overcast but balmy today on the Cinco de Mayo.

I looked in my Detroit Almanac book & it isn't in there. I think it is from a dairy though.
My mother-in-law grew up in that area. I'll ask her about it.
Lol. America is full of this kind of stuff isn't it? There's a giant plastic bull in a parking lot not too far from where I live. No sign on it. Just a forgotten bull.
Erik, JR can check, but I believe that is Elsie the Cow from Bordens' dairy. Cold Cow was the icecream place. Enjoy reading the posts. On the French, St. Anne Church is the oldest Catholic Church in the city founded by the French and Hamtramck was named after a French Colonel from the Revolutionary War. Trivia you probably already know. MW
Erik I stand corrected. The building with the big cow head on it was from the Ira Wilson and Sons Dairy. The cow was made to resemble Elsie. The icecream stand is closed but was restored for the movie 8 mile. MW
Haha! There's lots of plastic cows painted in that style around shopping centres in Tokyo, but not solely the head. That's very funny!
Thanks, all, for the comments. Much appreciated. MW, it seems like there are more of the Big Cows around town, but I can't remember exactly where I've seen them (at least one other, Eight Mile or Eleven Mile?).
