Paths of Glory

Jean Renoir, son of the painter, wounded veteran of the Great War, filmmaker best known for La Grande Illusion (1937) and La Règle du jeu / The Rules of the Game (1939). Incisive films about socio-economic class and manners, banned by thuggish governments -- a solid endorsement for free thinkers anywhere. Indeed, what oligarchy wants people thinking too hard about social illusions and class differences?

The Rules of the Game: what makeup to apply? What clothes to wear? What shall we drive? What shall we eat? What shall we drink? With whom shall we socialize? Where shall we live? What should we say to each other? How should we say it?

The dashing pilot as celebrity-hero during the Great Depression.

A birthday salute to Jean Renoir!

Fay Wray, hot and cool.

Today's Rune: Inititation.

The history of human civilization has been the steadily advancing attempts to control the thoughts of others.
