Gateway

Excessive heat and sunshine in Detroit. When this combo mixes with football, it's not cool at all.

Above is Spanish actress Lola Dueñas contemplating Christmas -- as am I.

Library fun with Clark Gable and Carole Lombard. The book stacks are cool!

Le Corbusier's designs are cool, too. His Chapelle Notre-Dame-du-Haut de Ronchamp, completed in the mid-1950s, is marvelous. I'd love to see more buildings with such character.

Barbie Hsu / Xu is concerned with cool spaces, too. Here she graces an international cover of Good Housekeeping. This attractive Chinese singer-actress turned thirty today.

Today's Rune: Gateway.

Visualize yourself standing before a gateway on a hilltop. Your entire life lies out behind you and below. Before you step through the gateway, pause and view the past: the learning and the joys, the victories and the sorrows -- everything it took to bring you here. Observe it all, bless it all, release it all. For it is in letting go of the past that you reclaim your power.

Step through the gateway now.

-- The Book of Runes (Ralph Blum, Bronwyn Jones, 1993 edition)

Birthdays: Le Corbusier (Charles-Edouard Jeanneret-Gris), Carole Lombard (Jane Peters), Thor Heyerdahl, Carolyn Goodman, Britt Ekland, Elisabeth Shue, Lola Dueñas, Jeremy Sisto.

Was Le Corbusier influenced by Gaudi? Seems remotely possible.
