Psychotic Reactions

Got to see Almost Famous again recently, reminding me of Lester Bangs, Creem Magazine (http://www.creemmagazine.com/) and the Detroit music scene.

Hey, man -- John Lee Hooker, Marvin Gaye, Iggy Pop -- what else does Detroit need to do a la the music scene? Add Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Madonna, The White Stripes, Industrial -- what else does anyone in the sane world need?

Well, ya know how it is . . .

One of the actual bands in Almost Famous is The Allman Brothers . . .

Today's Rune: The Self.

You forgot the MC5...

Man, I'd like to see a contest between Memphis and Detroit for best music.

It seems though that Detroit was a stop over for all the musicians named. They all moved on, but Bob Seeger came back...that's something I suppose. I also believe that John Sinclair has come back from the Netherlands, but I don't know if his local appearances are permanent or temporary. (a la The Beat Cafe)

Detroit is always a place to come back to. If Lester Bangs were alive today, I wonder what he'd say about digital rights management and new songs used in commericials.
