Soul Power '74: The Movie

Jeffrey Levy-Hinte's Soul Power pulls together concert and interview footage from Zaire '74, a festival event* originally timed to coincide with "The Rumble in the Jungle" heavyweight championship boxing match between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman (see also Leon Gast's 1996 documentary When We Were Kings). The fight was delayed, but the music show went on. Features quips and performances by Ali, Don King, James Brown, Miriam Makeba, B.B. King, Celia Cruz, The Spinners, Bill Withers, Hugh Masekela, and more. Playing at select hip theatres this summer, including at the DIA in Detroit. *(Location: Kinshasa, Zaire, now Democratic Republic of the Congo).

There is no democracy or peace in the genocidal Congo. funny to think that the Ali?Foreman fight may have been the best thing to happen to the place in the past century.
