Marvin Gaye: You're the Man

Thank you all for the comments on John Lee Hooker in the last post. Mark/Walking Man brought up another excellent example from the Detroit pantheon: Marvin Gaye.  This is one of my favorite of the lesser played songs from his most productive period:  "You're the Man" (1972).  It emanates with pain and suffering but remains nonetheless beautiful and still all too right on . . .  Do you have a favorite Marvin song or two?  I could list a dozen or more, but "Inner City Blues" and "Trouble Man" jump out of the box immediately.

Today's Rune: Signals.

The sound on this version is a little tinny, but you get the idea. Download the real thing for the fuller sound; and there's always the CD version.

I think Marvin's music encapsulated everything of the times, the politics the social issues while at the same time being cutting edge of funk.

Trouble man.
