Of Clouds and Browsers

Wordle: Erik's Choice Blog tags

In less than two minutes, I created the above word cloud that can be seen in full amazing resolution at:

http://www.wordle.net/show/wrdl/1761491/Erik%27s_Choice_Blog_tags

(free via www.wordle.net).  It's a snapshot of words featured in the past handful of "Erik's Choice" posts and looks like a nifty production number.

William S. Burroughs and Brion Gysin saw the "word cloud" and "word virus" coming more than fifty years ago -- compare their cut-up methods and some of the Dada and Surrealist techniques that came even before them. Please check it out for yourself via either link -- it's dazzling.

Meanwhile, libraries are very much in the game -- now more than ever. See how AquaBrowser shakes things up with its connected logic through word terms and seemingly random text.  For example, if you click over to the University of Pittsburgh's  PittCat+ and type in a search term, name or keyword, see how it works -- then click on one of the newly generated terms and see the word cloud rescramble again:  http://pittcatplus.pitt.edu/

I tried "Jack Kerouac," clicked GO and it took off from there . . .  The possibilities, as they say, are endless.

Today's Rune: Gateway.
