Jim Osterberg aka Iggy Pop turns 63 today -- man, if I have half that energy at 63, I'll be happy as a clam. It's been real cool to see Iggy and the Stooges slowly game fame and widepread recognition over the last three decades. Iggy has a lasting Michigan edginess and a mordant wit, while the real basic sonic assault launched by the Stooges in the 1960s still sounds good in 2010. Happy Birthday, Igster! Above is the April 1974 cover of CREEM.
Detroit-based CREEM championed The Stooges and Iggy Pop and a whole lot of bands that have aged like fine scotch. There's a nifty big book with lots of colorful photos and articles available, too: CREEM: AMERICA'S ONLY ROCK'N'ROLL MAGAZINE compiled and edited by Robert Matheu and Brian J. Bowe (2007).
Today's Rune: Separation (Reversed).

Jaysus Iggy is old as hell! ha ha ha time takes us all to a new age...some do it fighting and some give up in their 20's and just go along for the ride. I hear John Sinclair came back to Detroit permanently from his NO and Amsterdam exile.
OMG...Does he look like Sasha Baron Cohen or WHAT???
Saw the Ig for the third time the day before his 60th birthday, just a little over three years ago! He hasn't missed a step.
