Sarko the Shark has now won in France, with parliamentary elections set for June. France is in for a rocky ride, no doubt. Now there's a democratic republic where the masses take to the streets if they don't like what's going on.
Meanwhile, back in the United States, the results of Newsweek's May 5 poll is making the rounds. Conducted by Princeton Survey Research Associates International, it asked a series of dull questions about the 2008 election candidates. More compelling are the following questions and a percentage breakdown of the responses:
“Are you satisfied or dissatisfied with the way things are going in the United States at this time?”
71% Disapprove
25% Approve
“Do you approve or disapprove of the way George W. Bush is handling his job as president?”
64% Disapprove
28% Approve
Registered voters: “Do you consider yourself a Republican, Democrat, or Independent?”
37% Independent
36% Democrat
24% Republican
3% Other
All interesting, especially the affiliation results. If only we had more than two tediously boring political parties to choose from!
Reports from the wars: nine more US GI's and one British soldier killed today in Iraq; two US soldiers killed in Afghanistan. Gasoline prices in Detroit are pushing up to about $3.25/gallon for regular unleaded. Any air strikes against Iran will presumably spike this up again to over $5.00/gallon.
What do most unpopular leaders do when cornered? If history is any yardstick, nothing good.

Five dollars a gallon is a small price to pay for the destruction of Iran's totalitarian, terrorist regime!
The last woman commander in chief France had was Joan of Arc. She was burned at the stake.
With a 37 percent independent claim we have enough for a third party it looks like.
