Four more places worth checking out:
1) Klas' Restaurant (Klas Chicago) is "the largest Czech restaurant in the USA." It opened in 1922 and is located at 5734 West Cermak Road, Cicero, Illinois. Cicero is to Chicago what Hamtramck is to Detroit, only bigger; it was formerly a major Bohemian/Czech enclave much as Hamtramck was a major Polish one. Czech cuisine is akin to Austro-Hungarian, and German.

2) 220 features Italian food, drinks and people watching opportunities. At 220 Merrill Street, Birmingham, Michigan. It's a hop and a skip from the Birmingham Theatre (The Birmingham 8), built in 1927, which means: Art Deco. The Birmingham 8 shows a lot of independent films.
3) Mosaic. Greektown, 501 Monroe Street, Detroit. Opened in 2005, it's hip, with good drinks and eclectic cuisine. The owners are cool: sisters Athina, Maria and Stella Papas. The Papas family is at the heart of Greektown. Most assuredly, one can plunk down many a dollar here.

4) Mama Rosa's Restaurant and Pizzeria. This place is very popular among those in the area who like good pizza at a very moderate price. A cop hangout, a celebrity hangout, a neighborhood hangout. Dine in, get it to go. Located at 15134 Mack Avenue, Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan (Mack and Lakepointe). Just about anyone can afford a meal here.

Another good restaurant and cop hang-out in Detroit (eastside) is the Sierra Station. They've got great Mexican food.
mosiac sounds like someplace I'd love to go to.
Try the Red Devil Fenkell and Greenfield if it's still there for pizza or prime rib.
Never had Czech food. Makes me curious about it.
Erik, don't care for Hungarian, Chek, German or Polish food. Totally down with Greek and Italian, tho...
Klas' was just a few blocks from where I taught at in Cicero.
