I. Given the Satanic acts committed in Aurora, Colorado, I'll keep this entry short. Aurora, Roman Goddess of the Dawn. In Aurora, Colorado, a psychopath kills moviegoers with military grade weapons, having also booby trapped his apartment, turning the lives of thousands upside down. Nominally a Presbyterian, from what I've read.
II. In Nazarín (1959), Luis Buñuel delivers another masterful work showing how people treat themselves and each other within and across gender and socio-economic class lines.
Nazarín is about the choices we make in response to choices that are made for us. It is real, surreal and existential in tone, but with a particular sense of humor, too -- Buñuelean.
Nazarín is about a priest who has taken a vow of poverty -- and the resulting collisions. What Would Jesus Do, indeed? How would people treat Him today? Probably about the same as the first time around, I'm guessing.
Today's Rune: Strength.
