Burn

Burn, a 2012 documentary directed and produced by Tom Putnam and Brenna Sanchez is thoroughly absorbing. Also known as Burn: One Year on the Front Lines of the Battle to Save Detroit (2014 DVD). Detroit firefighters -- modestly paid even in the best of times -- routinely have to take on a surplus of the half-depleted city's most immediate emergencies. Though not to be confused with Gillo Pontecorvo's 1969 film Burn! / Queimada (starring Marlon Brando, soundtrack by Ennio Morricone), this Burn is just as urgent in setting and style. 
The soundtrack sticks it deep inside the psyche, too. Burn dives immediately into the fray with Iggy & the Stooges' "Gimme Danger" blaring from beyond the flames.

I don't mind that Fire fighters and police get all the kudos but when they go home, they for the most part do NOT go home to Detroit. I don't mind that no one has ever said a word about us who have lived our entire lives here. Who would expect an award for trying to stop others from turning my ghetto into a slum.
