The Clintons Bounce Back -- Again
I. Bill Clinton went to North Korea, met with Kim Jong-il, secured the release of journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee and then brought them back to the USA -- Bill Clinton as diplomatic pop star.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met with Somalia's Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed (previously, commander of the Islamic Courts Union) in an effort to shore up his moderate Islamic government against the more fundamentalist Hizbul Shabaab / Al-Shabaab insurgency. Overall, a much wiser approach than the Bush one, which was to give a green light to Ethiopian invasion in 2006 (the Ethiopians withdrew in ultimate failure earlier this year). The ever-resilient Clintons are back in the limelight!
II. On the way to Austin, Texas, in late December, 1992, I drove through Little Rock and Hope, Arkansas: after the election, but before the Clintons moved into the White House. It was an exciting time, and there was a lot of hubbub around the Governor's mansion in Little Rock. Bill Clinton signs had already sprouted in "a Town called Hope," which if memory serves, had a Pizza Hut and a few other amenities at the time.
III. Obama has obviously learned from the Clintons' experiences, and he's been smart enough to call on them for service. The Republican opposition once again tries to block a progressive agenda, only this time, Republicans are weaker and more fragmented. The so-called Rainbow Coalition is larger now, with more college youth, African Americans and Latinos registered and voting Democratic than ever before. Good! This time around, health care reform has a much better chance of becoming a reality, perhaps by October 2009.

You seem to hang out at some good blogs. Check mine out?
I'm puzzled and enticed by your archive of far passed and future years! Are you a time traveler?
Aloha-
Comfort Spiral
Not to mention that he flew to North Korea and brought them back the same day...or, at least, it seemed that way from the news coverage...pretty studly nonetheless...Bill Clinton IS Indiana Jones...
The U.S. is becoming more and more multiracial and multicultural...McCain got a share of the white vote (something like 56%) that would have given him the White House not long ago. So, the Republicans are dealing with this demographic change by...doing everything they can to court the white racist vote, thus further alienating the hell out of everybody else...could it be those assholes are gonna get just what they deserve?
The Clintons have been survivors from way back. We remember their early days in Arkansas.
So there is Carter, Two Bushes and a Clinton as living former presidents.
Hmmmm Looking at their records since leaving office I wonder which ones actually qualify for the title of elder statesmen?
OOOOO OOOO I Know I KNOW! The one that got fucked by Ronald Reagan and his illegal back door foreign policy; conducted as a private citizen with the Ayatollah Khomeini and the one that got impeached.
HEALTH CARE REFORM IS BEING FOUGHT TOOTH AND NAIL BY THE INSURANCE INDUSTRY, THE PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY AND THE GOP. THERE ARE SHILLS IN THE TOWN HALL MEETINGS WHO ARE PART OF THE STRATEGY TO DERAIL REFORM. MONEY IS POURING IN TO LOBBYISTS WHO INFLUENCE OR BUY CONGRESS FROM THOSE WHO LIKE THE STATUS QUO. AMERICANS HAD BETTER WAKE UP AS TO WHAT IS GOING ON, THE DEMOCRATS NEED A BETTER COUNTER STRATEGY OR ONCE AGAIN THE AMERICAN PUBLIC WILL GET SCREWED.
If we are to compete, that second photograph should show "SQUARE" watermelons, not "OVAL".
Obama's political instincts are incredible. I'm fairly confident that he'll get health care reform passed.
I would have voted for Bill Clinton as many times as he would have run. Loved the guy. I think I've mentioned seeing him speak at a high school graduation in June, 1983, when he was governor of Arkansas. Incredibly magnetic speaker.
Erik, while admitting to being a political zero, right now Bill Clinton is a rock star to me. Thank God those girls are home!
Yeah the Clintons are such media lovers, they love fame...don't really approve or like Hilary especialy when it comes to ME issues.
Thanks all for the comments! Cloudia, time traveler, indeed ;->
