Where now the straw machine?

I heard today someone make a "Straw Man" argument.

While an ice cream truck blared "Turkey in the Straw."

Then somebody tried to carry off the straw.

And the weird thing is, it's not even worth a straw.

That really might have been the last straw.

Then it surely became the straw that broke the camel's back. 

And by that time -- if not before -- people were grasping at them.

Weird thing is, all of these kinds of phrasings seem to date back to the 1800s or even before that. Jack Straw learns to draw.
